The Faculty of Health Sciences of Semmelweis University runs a midwifery program with a duration of 4 years (240 credits) leading to a Bachelor of Sciences Degree.


Midwives are professionals who are qualified to conduct their work in the obstetric-gynecological areas independently and carry the attached responsibility, while cooperating with other members of the staff in prenatal monitoring, assist at birth, and provide neonatal care.
After the end of the program the graduates earn a qualification as nurse and patient care professional in the midwife specialist program. Major Curricular Components of this program are: functional Anatomy, Applied Physiology and Pathophysiology, Nursing, Pharmacology, Information Technology, Psychology, Social Psychology, Ethics, Clinical Genetics, Immunology, Communication, Surgical Procedures, Obstetrics-Gynaecology, Fertility Clinical Procedures and Anaesthesiology
The applicants must successfully complete an entrance examination in English and Biology as well as a personal interview.
After completing the course the graduates have the following future study options: SUFHC Nursing (B.Sc.), Health Visitation (B.Sc.). With a Bachelor of Sciences in midwifery there are numerous career opportunities such as working in a Hospital Neonatal Department, Outpatient Department, Obstetric-Gynaecological Clinic or in Prenatal Advisory Services and Family Planning.
